Transit planning & design services

  • Bus Rapid Transit

Aileen has spent nearly 20 years researching, planning, and designing BRT systems. Bespoke draws on her local, national, and international experience with bus transit planning and design – from better bus to full-featured BRT – to customize optimal solutions for communities along Colorado’s Front Range. Bespoke leads BRT corridor conceptual design and planning-design integration. We can also advise on BRT strategy and design standards.

  • Transit Speed & Reliability

We deconstruct the elements of BRT—dedicated lanes, quick passenger boarding, intersection priority—into a toolbox of transit speed and reliability treatments that reduce bus delay and improve on-time performance. Bespoke can lead a data-driven approach to identifying the sources of transit delay (e.g., congestion, boarding & alighting, intersections) and recommending improvements that will be most effective at improving transit operations.

  • Bus Transit Design Guidelines

Bespoke has provided technical guidance to local governments, transit agencies, and international NGOs on transit design guidelines and standards, including BRT design elements and accessible bus stops. We can draw on national and international best practices and lessons learned. Aileen serves on the technical advisory committee of ITDP’s international BRT Standard, whose 2024 edition includes an expanded focus on passenger access and safety.

  • Passenger Experience

With a background in design thinking, Aileen brings a passenger perspective to her transit planning. She has worked with students to develop strategies for increasing youth transit usage. After previously designing wheelchairs, Aileen prioritizes universal accessibility in transit design. Bespoke can assist in translating technical BRT concepts for various audiences, and consider the passenger journey in project planning and communications.

    Mega-Event Transport

Aileen supported the final planning and operational readiness of a new rapid transit corridor for the 2010 World Cup and developed an impact evaluation methodology used to assess several transit corridors built for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics. We can leverage our BRT planning and design experience and emphasis on transit passenger experience to improve the transportation legacy of international events.
